Parrots need variety
Making treats for your parrot will add something new and exciting to his day. The recipes on the right side of this page are a great way to spice up your bird’s diet.
You can use them as a snack or as an occasional substitute for a meal.
These are a few of the recipes that we’ve used. If you know of a great recipe that should be included, please let us know using
Birdie Bread
2 packages Jiffy Bread Corn Bread Muffin Mix
4 eggs (twice the # on box)
2/3 cup milk
16oz mixed frozen veggies (or fresh), thawed chopped in food processor, you can also use baby food
1 to 1 1/2 cups nutriberry crumbs or other seeds, nuts or grains
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Grease 9 by 13 pan
Blend ingredients. Batter will be lumpy. Fill pan. Bake 20-25 minutes- until toothpick will come out clean. Let cool. Cut in serving size pieces (about an inch or so). Freeze in freezer bag. Microwave two frozen pieces for 60 seconds to thaw. Make sure there aren’t any hot spots to burn the crop.
Jody's Cornbread
Makes: One 8x8 pan, 2&1/2 dozen mini muffins or 1 dozen reg muffins
1 cup meal - either corn or custom bird pellet meal
1 cup flour reg or wheat
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup milk or spring water
1 egg
1/4 cup vegetable oil
In a large bowl combine all dry ingredients and mix. Add remaining ingredients & mix together for 1 minute. At this point you can add any special ingredients your birds like (fruits, nuts veggies, etc). Pour into greased 8x8 pan or muffin tins.
Bake at 425
23 minutes for 8x8
11 minutes for mini muffins
18 minutes for full size muffins
Harrison's Birdie Bread
2 cups Harrisons Pellet Crumbs
1/2 cup Oats
1/2 cup Wheat Flour
2-3 jars of Baby food (1 veg. & 1 or 2 fruits)
1/4 cup brown sugar
4 Eggs
1/2 cup Peanut Butter,
Pinch of Cinnamon & pinch of Nutmeg
Mix all of above ingredients together along with approx. 1/2 cup each of the following:
Raisins, Cranberries, Speckled Butter Beans, Collard Greens (finely chopped), Broccoli (finely chopped), Corn, Nuts, Parsley, Cilantro, Tarragon, Red & Orange Bell Pepper.
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Mix together & pour into baking dish. Sprinkle top w/additional Harrison crumbs. Bake @ 400 degrees for 1 hour.
Check after 45-55 min.
Apple Cinnamon Muffins
3 cup Flour
3/4 cup Sugar
1 1/2 tsp Cream of Tartar
3/4 tsp Baking Soda
1/2 tsp Orange Peel
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1/2 cup Butter
1 cup finely chopped Apple
1 cup French Vanilla Yogurt
2 Eggs beaten
Mix all ingredients together. Fill greased muffin cups 2/3 full. Makes 22 muffins. Bake @ 350 for 20-25 min. If desired top w/ chopped Pecans.
Fruit & Nut Bars
2 Large Eggs
1/4 cup Walnuts
1/4 cup Raisins
18 oz box of Corn Bread
1/3 cup Cranberry Juice
1/4 cup Applesauce
1/2 cup mixed vegetables, defrosted & chopped fine
1/2 cup chopped broccoli
Preheat oven to 400 degrees
In large bowl stir together eggs, applesauce, juice, frozen veggies & broccoli. Add corn bread a bit at a time. Stir in raisins & walnuts. Pour batter in greased 8 x 8 pan. Bake 20 minutes. When cool cut into squares & store in an airtight container in fridge.
Sweet Potato Balls
1 Large Sweet Potato baked till soft
1/2 cup Raisins
1 Small Banana
1 cup Frozen Mixed Vegetables - thawed
1 cup Diced Apple
1 1/2 cup Corn Flakes.
In food processor, puree sweet potato, banana, apple & veggies. When smooth add corn flakes & puree till smooth.
Stir in raisins with wooden spoon. Roll into small balls & freeze. They will keep about 6 months in freezer. Defrost to serve.
Oatmeal Raisin Truffles
1 Large Sweet Potato - baked till soft
1/2 cup Raisins
1 Banana
1 cup Shredded Carrots
1 cup Diced Peaches
1 1/2 cup Quick Cook Oats
In food processor, puree sweet potato, banana, peaches, & carrots until smooth. When smooth, add oats & puree till smooth. Stir in raisins w/ wooden spoon. Roll into balls & freeze. They will keep about 6 months in freezer.
Cranberry Apple Drops
3 tbls Oil
3 large Egg Whites
2 cups All Purpose Flour
1 1/2 cups Quick Cook Oats
1 tsp Baking Soda
3/4 cup Apple Juice Concentrate - thawed
1/4 cup Cranberry Juice Cocktail
1/2 cup Chopped Walnuts
2 cups Chopped Dried Apples
Preheat oven to 350
Beat egg white till frothy. Add juices & blend. Add flour, oats & baking soda. Mix until well blended. Stir in walnuts & dried apples. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto cookie sheet.
Bake for 10 minutes. When cool, freeze or store in airtight container in fridge.
Apple Delight
4 Small Apples
2 tbls Wheat Germ
2 tbls Raisins
1/4 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 cup Chopped Pine Nuts
1 cup Thawed Frozen Apple Juice.
Core Apples. Place on baking sheet sprayed w/ Pam. Combine wheat germ, raisins, cinnamon & nuts. Fill center of apples w/ mixture. Drizzle juice over apples Bake 45 minutes.@ 350.
